We’re 100! And you’re invited
Can you believe it? This Saturday we’ll be celebrating our 100th market! Since 2009 we’ve helped raise more than £60,000 for local charities, and won eight local and national awards including FARMA Farmers’ Market of the Year.
To thank you for helping make it all possible, please join us on Saturday. We’ll be drawing the winning tickets in our Anniversary Raffle at 12 noon, cutting a cake on our stall at 12.30pm and unveiling a plaque outside Gordon Bennett Bar + Kitchen to celebrate our success.
We really hope you can make it!
We’ve added even more prizes to our raffle in aid of children’s charity Momentum, including a place on a Kingston Beekeepers Can I Keep Bees course (normally costs £75), a bouquet of flowers from new flower stall Holly & the Ivy, a month’s training at Prime Academy Martial Arts, a carvery voucher for Glenmore House, plus beer festival and outdoor cinema tickets for Ravens Ait!
Find a full list of prizes here or follow us on Twitter here.
All funds raised for Momentum will go towards refurbishing the Sunshine and Dolphin Children’s Wards at Kingston Hospital.
Buy your tickets at the organisers’ stall on Saturday, or this week at Shoes at Last or Fellowship Barbers, for the chance to win one of 30 amazing prizes! Tickets cost just £1 each, £5 for five
As well as buying your raffle tickets on market day, you can also text to donate to Momentum today via JustGiving. Text SURB10 followed by the amount you’d like to donate (eg SURB10 £10) to 70070 to show your support for their amazing work. You can also pay for raffle tickets at the market by the same method.
Florist Holly McLoughlin’s Holly & the Ivy will return this month and we’ll be welcoming a new guest stall, Juicy Bros, selling fresh cold-pressed fruit and vegetable juices. ‘100% healthy taste, 0% bottle waste’ is the philosophy for Juicy Bros, reusing every glass bottle they get back. ‘For a healthier planet and a healthier you,’ says stallholder Gus Lee-Dolphin.
Our Charity of the Month is Surbiton-based community interest company Balance which provides employment and support services to disabled and vulnerable people. Balance will be launching its funding appeal to improve facilities at Stud Nursery in Home Park, and will have a Lucky Lolly game at 50p a go with the chance to win children’s pots of seeds! Woodwork and craft items made by its clients at the nursery will be on sale.
Well done to The George Pantziarka TP53 Trust which raised £150 at the market last month, which we’ll be match-funding to make £300.
Please take just a moment to vote for us in the Time & Leisure 2018 Food and Culture Awards. You could win a luxury stay at the 4-star Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel in Surrey’s North Downs. There are lots of great local events to attend this month. Pop down to the Tarte in the Park at Victoria Recreation Ground and paint yourself a unique piece of pottery with local artist, Michele. Drop-in workshops are typically held on a Friday, once a month, with no booking required. Message Michele on 07961 960 274 for upcoming dates.
And Surbiton Food Festival will be running foodie events around the town next month, from the Seething Freshwater Sardine Festival in Claremont Gardens on Sunday 6 May to the Seething Community Sports Day, Picnic and Fun Dog Show at Victoria Recreation Ground on Saturday 19 May. Buy your picnic at the market and stroll along to the park!
And finally… get ready for our Royal Wedding Day market next month when we’ll be awarding prizes for the best dressed Little Princess and Little Prince!
