A season to celebrate
Autumn is finally here so we’ll have all the freshest seasonal produce this Saturday morning in Maple Road. And that’s not all we have to celebrate…
WE WON! Thanks to your support we’ve just received a Kingston Business Excellence Award 2018 for our Commitment to the Community.
Our Charities Manager and Director Robyn McAllister went along to the ceremony on Ravens Ait on 11th October. ‘I’m absolutely delighted to pick up this award on behalf of the amazing volunteers, stallholders and shoppers that make Surbiton Farmers’ Market so fantastic,’ said Robyn, pictured (right) receiving the trophy from Jennifer Edwards of sponsor Kingston University.
Over the past nine years you’ve helped us raise over £60,000 – through fundraising activities and surplus proceeds from stall fees – for more than 50 local charities and causes, including larger donations totalling nearly £4,000 in the past month alone:
£1,090 to Kingston Carers’ Network for young carers to go on a Christmas trip of a meal and ice skating
- £1,000 to Kingston Association for the Blind for trips and activities that combat loneliness and social isolation
- £850 to TAG Youth Club (pictured) to support yoga sessions for disabled children and young people
Find out more about TAG here
- £515 to The Fircroft Trust for craft materials for adults with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities
- £450 to Joel Community Services for books for six book club sessions for homeless adults
Here’s what you’ll find at the market this Saturday…
This month we’ll be welcoming back our social enterprise crêpe stall Flipping Amazing, Silent Pool Distillers and Kitty’s Kombucha. Our stallholders will have the freshest of seasonal produce, including a wonderful array of fruit, juices and jams from Scott Lewis of Ringden Farm. And don’t miss the new lines from The Flavours of Sicily – anyone for flavoured almonds with black truffle?!
Look out for Kingston Pound’s FiverFest with special offers when you pay with the Kingston Pound. Taking part are BeeInspired, Flipping Amazing, Holly and the Ivy, Ralph Wettach, Kitty’s Kombucha and Maple Road restaurant No 97.
Pop along to the Kingston Pound stall in the middle of the market to find out more and see the new paper version of the local currency launched this month! Full details here.
We’ll also be welcoming 1st Surbiton Sea Scouts, one of the oldest scout groups in the UK. A group of scouts and Explorers are taking part in the International Scout Jamboree in the USA in 2019. Each scout has to fund £3,500 to take part. At the market the scouts will have an American Halloween-themed stall selling items they have made themselves – beanie hats, paracord bracelets and bird boxes. There’ll also be games for children, face painting and Halloween tattoos.
A new season of Market Day Thames Concerts begins this Saturday at 10.30 am in St Andrew’s Church in Maple Road. The first concert will feature young musicians from Coombe Girls’ School. Admission is free. Find out more here.
PS The Grand Opening of Ralph Wettach’s new shop and café at 77 Surbiton Road KT1 2HW will be at 10am on 17th October. And you’re invited!
